Banque House - This elegantly appointed Victorian-style hotel is small, select and very comfortable. Our well maintained accommodation is close to the Channel Tunnel, town centre, the Leas, shops and local restaurants. The Ship Inn - This strong community pub in the village of Sandgate offers accommodation in an adjacent early Victorian seafront cottage. The 6 available rooms are all furnished and decorated to a luxurious standard, with en suite facilities. The cottage at The Ship Inn is south facing and located on the seafront, with 2 of the rooms offering outstanding sea views - on a clear day, the views of France are particularly special. Only a 5-minute drive from the Channel Tunnel and 16 minutes from the port of Dover, The Ship Inn is known for the quality and range of real ales, as well as its home cooked food. The Pilgrims rest has a rich and fascinating history. In the early 19th century, the building was home to a farrier, whose forge stood next door. As recently as the early 1900s, part of the building was a butcher's. Today, the property has been carefully restored and sensitively refurbished by your hosts, Gerard and Denise McNicholas. There are now 6 en suite rooms with all the comforts the modern traveller requires, including tea/coffee making facilities and flat-screen TVs with Freeview digital channels. If you enjoy walking, then Chislehurst is on one of the Green Chain routes from Mottingham Lane to Beckenham Park (4 1/2 miles). The Crown is very close to the well known Chislehurst Caves which extend for nearly 20 miles and date back over 4,000 years. The caves became more widely known after their use during the Second World War as an air raid shelter, not only for the locals but for over 10,000 Londoners who travelled to the caves each night by special train. It was so well organised that people could pay 1d per night for a bunk and there was also a cinema, church and hospital for them to use during their time underground. The caves are thought to be entirely man made and were created during three periods of time by our ancestors - well worth a visit. The Crown Inn has 7 guest rooms, all of which are non-smoking.
